Jeffrey, Sammie L.

Sammie L. Jeffrey age 101, of Seguin, Texas, died Thursday January 1, 2009. Funeral services were held Saturday January 3, at Howell-Doran Funeral Home in San Saba at 2:00 PM with burial at the Richland Springs Cemetery.

Sammie was born in Llano County, Texas on December 12, 1907, to Joseph Theodore Jeffrey, and Malinda Sarah Churchill Jeffrey.

Sammie was a lifelong rancher, and retired from the Flying V Ranch in 1976. Sammie was a member of the Valley Springs Primitive Baptist Church.

Sammie married Annie Koen Powell in Holt, Texas on March 6, 1932. They had two sons, Ira Paul Jeffrey; and James L. Jeffrey.

Sammie was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Jeffrey; one son, James Jeffrey; and two daughters-in-law, Carol Jeffrey; and Diane Jeffrey.

Survivors include his son, Ira Paul Jeffrey; six grandchildren, Marty Jeffrey and wife Autumn; John Jeffrey; Martha Thompson and husband Guy; Billy Jeffrey and wife Leslie; Ramona Jeffrey; and Jamie Dennis.Ten great-grandchildren, Jared Thompson; Jacob Thompson; Clinton DeMuth; Cameron Pierce; Joshua Jeffrey; Matthew Jeffrey; Cheyenne Jeffrey; Justin Dennis; Connor Wilberg; and Grayson Jeffrey

Johanson, Bonnie Jane

Bonnie Jane Johanson, 93, of Cherokee, Texas passed away November 6, 2008 at Goldthwaite Senior Health Center in Goldthwaite, Texas. She was born April 2, 1915, the oldest child of Dudley and Sallie Patrick Battle in Lone Grove, Texas, Llano County. On May 13, 1933, Bonnie Jane Battle and Clyde Johanson were married. They made their home in Cherokee, Texas for many years. Clyde passed away August 30, 2002.

Bonnie graduated from Cherokee High School in 1933 and was salutorian of the class. Bonnie and Clyde owned and operated the only café in Cherokee during the 1940's and lived upstairs above the café. During the late 1950's she served as acting postmaster for the U.S. Post Office in Cherokee. Later the Johanson's were partners with Mike and Pearlie Walters and operated Cherokee Grocery Store.

Bonnie enjoyed all sorts of handwork – crochet, embroidery, and quilting.

She had no idea how many quilts she had pieced and quilted. A work basket sat beside her chair as long as she was able to hold a needle.

A faithful member of the Church of Christ at both Cherokee and San Saba, Bonnie took pleasure in preparing food and serving meals at church functions. She was a volunteer worker for Cherokee Home for Children and a Sunday school teacher. She enjoyed visiting shut-ins and helping others that were unable to do for themselves.

She is survived by her son Dr. Lamar Johanson and wife Marilynn of Goldthwaite, Texas and one sister, Kathleen Byrd of Belton, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and one sister Doris Hazelwood and twin brothers George D. Battle and Dalmon Battle.

Graveside Services were Saturday, November 8, 2008 at 3:00 P.M.at the Cherokee Cemetery in Cherokee, Texas. Arrangements by Stacy-Wilkins Funeral Home, Goldthwaite, Texas.

 

 

 

Johnson, Vada Lee

Vada Lee Johnson, 86, of San Saba, Texas, passed away on Monday, February 1, 2010. She was born September 23, 1923, in San Saba, Texas, the daughter of Dee Rutherford and Balzora Whitley.

She is survived by her son Dee Johnson of San Saba, Texas; her grandchildren Beth Johnson Bragg of Salado; Katie Johnson Barnes of Henrietta; Terri Johnson Rice and Sherri Johnson Kraus both of Austin, Texas; and Woodrow Blake Johnson of Austin, Texas, now stationed in Afghanistan; her great-grandchildren Jordan, Jacob, James Svadlenak of Salado; Kodi Barnes of Henrietta; and Jessica Rice of Austin, Texas; she is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one daughter-in-law, Bonnie Johnson, two brothers Archie Rutherford, Clyde Rutherford, and one sister Beatie Randolph.

Services were held Thursday, February 4, 2010 at the Howell-Doran Funeral Home Chapel.

Interment followed at the Spring Creek Cemetery.

 

Jones, Ellen (Nellie)

Ellen (Nellie) Jones, 85, of San Saba, passed away on Wednesday, August 5, 2009 in Brownwood Regional Medical Center. She was born August 22, 1923 in St. Helens, England, the daughter of Frederick Morris and Miriam Ruth Greenall Morris. Ellen Jones and Earnest S. Jones were married in Warrington, England on November 3, 1943.

Ellen is survived by her sons, Earnest Roy Jones and his wife, Cathy Sue of San Saba; Timothy Charles Jones of Dublin; her daughter, Barbara Ruth Krempin and her husband, Weldon of Austin; her grandchildren, Jason Krempin and his wife, Sonia; Jeff Krempin; Sharon Killough and her husband, Mark; Amy Jones; Tammy Jones; Justin Jones and his wife, Robin; Jenna Shafer and her husband, Stacy; Joshua Jones; her great-grandchildren, Cynthia Maldonado, Reva Killough, McKezie and McKya Jones and several nieces and nephews.

Ellen is preceded in death by her husband and one brother, Frederick Morris.

Services were held Saturday, August 8, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. Howell-Doran Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. William Grusendorf officiating. Interment followed at Chappel Cemetery.

The family requests that memorials be made to the San Saba Volunteer EMS or the American Cancer Society.

Jones, Evelyn

Evelyn Smith Gilbreath Jones, 84, of Austin, Texas passed away Wednesday, August 6, 2008 in Austin, Texas. She was born August 9, 1923 in the China Creek Community in San Saba County, the daughter of Elbert Wayne Smith and Jessie Williams Smith. Evelyn was a homemaker and attended the Christian Church.

She is survived by three daughters; Carolyn Williams and her husband Michael, Judy Row and her husband Jim and Gina Richards all of Austin, six grandchildren; Trey Buck, Tracey Kirk, Marilee Eitel, Laurel Row, Rebecca Row, and Ashlee Richards-Rood, three great-grandchildren: Evan Eitel, Olivia Kirk, and Payton Eitel and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one granddaughter, Rachel Row, and one brother and sister.

Graveside services were held Saturday, August 9, 2008 at 11:00 AM at the Harmony Ridge Cemetery.
